Kensington

Kensington is shooting its way up the consciousness of Dutch audiences and now Zip Records in the US gets in on the action. Following up on their hit single “Youth,” Kensington upped that success with the 2011 single release of “Let Go” and their debut album “Borders.”

“Borders” was recorded in Kaiser Chiefs’ studio in Leeds, UK and was mastered by John Davis (U2, Arctic Monkeys, Snow Patrol). Sharing the stage with the likes of Razorlight, My Chemical Romance and The Wombats, Kensington are off and running.

After playing the Eurosonic/Noorderslag festival in January 2011, things started rolling fast for Kensington. Popular music magazine OOR commented that month; “Kensington [is] one of the best bands of the Netherlands.” The band has sold out high profile venues such as Paradiso (Amsterdam), Rotown (Rotterdam) and Tivoli (Utrecht), and a concert review by 3VOOR12 (leading online music magazine) explicitly endorsed the band’s material as befitting “international standards.”

With their latest single Let Go, which was recorded in Berlin and mastered in New York, the band’s ascent continues. Radio 3FM (one of the largest Dutch radio stations) started playing the song the day after the band returned from the studio and the song quickly reached ‘3FM Megahit’ status, resulting in heavy airplay.

A new headlining tour is now set, along with a long list of summer festivals. Furthermore, the band was nominated for ‘Best newcomer’ at the 3FM Awards 2011. In two years time, Kensington has established themselves in the Dutch music scene and in October of 2011 the Kensington album “Borders” will be released in the US on Zip Records. A series of shows in the US is being scheduled in conjunction with the mid October release date.
