Interview with Hungarian radio station Petofi. Translation by Anca.
Kensington just performed an impeccable show at the Strand Festival in Balaton. After the concert, the members of the band gave an exclusive interview to the M2 Petofi TV. The guys have been numerous times in our country, but this is the first time they took the stage of the Strand Festival and it can easily be said that their debut on this stage was fantastic. Their concert started on Wednesday at 18:00 hours, an hour which they consider lucky.
Casper: “It was wonderful. We performed at the sunset, we saw the Balaton Lake directly from the stage. It was an impeccable concert.”
The guys love Hungary because they have been to Budapest on multiple occasions and they even played in Debrecen. Among the dearest memories, they hold the concerts at Sziget Festival. The best proof of their attraction to Hungary is the fact that the video for the song “Done With It” was shot at Sziget. At the concert, they said that they saw many familiar faces and this made them feel good.
Casper: “We have never had a bad show in Hungary.” Although the lives of the Kensington boys has during the latest months turned around their touring, their biggest success was on the Johan Cruijff ArenA where they performed in front of 45,000 people. After so many concerts, the Kensington guys will be back in the studio to start working on their next album which will be released in the near future. If you are curious about what prize Niles has won or what a Fansington is, please watch the interview.
Reporter: We are backstage at Strand Festival with Niles and Casper from Kensington. You got on the stage at 6 in the evening. How was it?
Casper: It was wonderful. We performed at the sunset, we could see the sun coming down, we saw the Balaton Lake directly from the stage. It was an impeccable concert.
Reporter: A few weeks ago, you had your biggest concert on the Johan Cruijff ArenA. How was it?
Niles: It was definitely our biggest show, headline show that we ever did in front of 45,000 people, a sold out stadium. It was like the old school concerts, Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Metallica. Anyway, we never dreamt of getting to this level.
Reporter: Your fans are called Fansingtons. Apart from the Netherlands, where else do you have fans?
Niles: I hope in Hungary.
Casper: Yeah, there were actually tonight some people we saw before at Sziget Festival or in Budapest, in Debrecen. They follow the band, they know the songs.
Reporter: You’ve toured a lot this summer, you’ve been to Barba Negra in Budapest.
Niles: It’s been a long summer.
Casper: Indeed, we want to get back in the studio at the end of the summer in order to record the next album. It’s been a long time since Control has come out. And it has been quite stressful and exhausting for us. We consider this concert at Strand Festival as the peak of this European tour which was very long. We’ve been to Barba Negra. We are here for the first time and we are happy to be here. The people have started singing with us the moment we stepped on the stage, so we were helped a lot. The experience was very cool and we can say that we’ve always been welcome in Hungary. Although it was very hot and this took a lot of our energy away, the support of the public who sang along with us helped us a lot. We never had a bad show in Hungary. It was awesome. The Sziget shows are our favourite shows.
Reporter: You mentioned a new album. What can you tell us more about this wonderful news?
Niles: No updates so far. We’ll just get back in the studio, try a few songs.
Casper: The studio is the Kensington laboratory and we will go there to work on the new album which should be released next year. We’ll see what we can throw in the mix to get the perfect alchemy. And we hope to be back to Hungary to perform songs from the new album.
Reporter: And how will the new album be named? Something related to Hungary?
Casper: Of course, it will be called Strand.
Reporter: Just one more thing, I looked on your Facebook page and I saw that you have recently won a very important award.
Niles: Yeah, Slagwerkkrant from Benelux awarded me with the Best Rock Drummer.
Casper: The Best Funk and Dance Drummer.
Reporter: Casper and Niles, it was lovely meeting you. I hope to see you again soon. Thank you!
